Goal: To reinterpret the album’s existing visual language while staying true to its conceptual themes, creating a design that feels both familiar and distinctly original
This vinyl gatefold redesign reinterprets Catching Z's by Zeds Dead, translating the album’s atmospheric and introspective sound into a surreal visual experience. The design draws from the project’s dreamy, otherworldly tone, using collage, spatial distortion, and layered imagery to construct an immersive visual narrative across the gatefold. Inspired by the album’s existing conceptual direction, the redesign maintains a sense of familiarity while introducing a distinct, personal interpretation. The interior layout integrates tracklist and lyrical content into hypnotic, flowing compositions, balancing legibility with visual experimentation. Developed using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, the final design transforms the album into a cohesive physical artifact that extends the listening experience through form, texture, and atmosphere.
Challenge: The challenge was to balance reinterpretation with recognition—developing a new visual direction that remained aligned with the album’s original concept while avoiding direct replication. Additionally, designing the gatefold interior required organizing dense lyrical content within a visually complex composition, maintaining both readability and atmosphere.
