Target Audience: Convention attendees, particularly fans of horror media, as well as event organizers seeking a visually cohesive and thematic wayfinding system
Goal: To design a clear and functional icon system that enhances navigation while reinforcing the immersive horror identity of the convention.
This Horror Con icon set was designed as a cohesive system of pictograms for a fictional horror convention, focusing on wayfinding, attractions, and amenities. The icons reinterpret traditional signage through a horror-inspired visual language, incorporating sharp shapes, exaggerated forms, and eerie motifs while maintaining clarity and readability. Each symbol balances function and theme, ensuring that the icons remain easily recognizable while contributing to an immersive brand experience. The consistent use of simplified forms and stylized details allows the set to feel unified across different applications. The project was created in Adobe Illustrator, combining vector illustration and system-based design to produce a functional yet expressive icon set.
Challenge: One of the main challenges was balancing stylization with legibility to ensure each icon remained easily understandable at a glance. It was important to incorporate horror elements without overcomplicating the forms or reducing clarity. Additionally, maintaining consistency across a full set of icons while allowing each to feel distinct required careful attention to shape language and visual hierarchy.
